Steamforged Games' collaboration and Jagex is the most recent in a long line of partnerships that have brought some of the most popular gaming franchises to a tabletop experience. Steamforged Games, a tabletop gaming giant, has previously created board games based on series like Monster Hunter World and Dark Souls and, most recently, completed the most successful Kickstarter campaign for a Resident Evil 2 board game with over 1 million GBP raised earlier in the year.

Now, the company has set its sights on Gielinor's world and RuneScape and plans to launch the board game as well as a core RPG for tabletop games in the coming year. The two RPG versions will feature a variety of the most well-known characters from RuneScape and places, allowing groups of up to five players to challenge classic quests in RuneScape as well as bring adventure in The world of Gielinor home.

Players can create and upgrade equipment, interact with NPCs as they undertake various side-quests inspired of the original MMORPG. The board game will go live by means of the help of a Kickstarter campaign later this year. Meanwhile, the main tabletop RPG book is set to debut in stores.

The tabletop core book RPGs will be notably compatible with the huge tabletop RPG Dungeons and Dragons' fifth edition core books, which will allow dungeon masters to seamlessly incorporate elements of RuneScape into their games.

Jagex CEO Phil Mansell was optimistic about the project , and expressed his enthusiasm regarding it. Kickstarter project "involving all the RuneScape community," and Steamforged CCO Mat Hart believed the "rich RuneScape universe will translate beautifully" into a tabletop-based environment.
